Following the success of Parwaaz – the first locally produced drama series based in the UAE made in 2014 – which got the highest ever ratings recorded till date among South Asians in UAE, Zee TV Middle East has just wrapped up shoot for its second UAE-based drama series called ‘Khwaabon Ke Darmiyaan’.
Similar to Parwaaz, ‘Khwaabon Ke Darmiyaan’ will also be a finite series with 13 episodes of 1 hour each and will go on-air from 3rd Dec – Every Saturday at 2130hrs UAE time on Zee TV Middle East.
Speaking about the launch of the new series, Mukund Cairae, CEO for Zee Middle East & Asia Pacific said, “UAE is the land of dreams for millions of South Asians who call this place home. With the massive developments in the pipeline in the run up to Expo 2020, we will see many more dreams come to life. The story that we have showcased through Khwaabon Ke Darmiyaan is one that a lot of people here will relate to, and get inspired by. It revolves around Ikram Malik, the main protagonist, who is a South Asian real estate tycoon who has made it big in Dubai and his journey. After the success of Parwaaz, our first drama series with a UAE based story line, we have been looking to showcase more stories that will appeal to the people of this country. Mirroring UAE’s diverse population, our cast and crew consist of talent from about 12 to 15 nationalities.”
“At Zee, we are constantly looking to strengthen our ethos ‘The World is My Family’. By creating localized content for this market, we are not only giving the viewers here more options for content they can watch, but we are also trying to encourage local talent and production units to work on new and different projects. We hope to drive the South Asian content industry in this market with these initiatives and create more opportunities and entertainment for all”; Mr. Cairae further added.
Explaining the concept of the series, Manoj Mathew, Chief Operating Officer for Zee Middle East & North Africa said “Khwaabon Ke Darmiyaan showcases the story of a UAE based real estate tycoon Ikram Malik and his endeavor to launch a massive real estate project in the UAE. Given its finite and compelling storyline, the series promises to be fast-paced and engrossing. The protagonist Ikram Malik is essayed by famous star Javed Sheikh – the acclaimed actor of Tamaasha and Om Shanti Om fame. Other big names in the show include actors and actresses from the television fraternity – Sachiin Kkhurana, Aryan Vaid, Nigaar Khan, Garima Goel and Riyanka Chanda – who have all made their mark with their body of work previously. Actors Muneeb Butt, Ayesha Gul and Faiza Khan round off the main star cast for the series. Multiple auditions conducted in Dubai helped identify fresh local talent for the show as well.”
The series has been shot extensively all over Dubai in a packed 40-day schedule and has been directed by Manoj Tiwari and Waqqas Sheikh. Anik Varma, who has previously worked on Bollywood projects with Anurag Kashyap and Makarand Deshpande brings his expertise as the DOP for the series. The entire production is handled by the UAE based production house Elite Films.
Apart from airing on Zee TV in the Middle East, the drama series has also been syndicated to multiple channels across the globe including RTI in Ivory Coast where the series will be dubbed in French. The series will also be dubbed in Arabic and aired on Zee Alwan in the coming year.
Zee’s initiatives to create fiction content outside India has created a new industry for stories set in international locations. Apart from the Dubai shoot, one key schedule of shoot for Khwaabon Ke Darmiyaan is also planned in Ivory Coast to showcase multiple cultures and give the series a truly international feel. Well known Ivorian actor Ahmed Souane also played a key role in the series as Ikram Malik’s (Javed Sheikh) close friend.
