Marathi cinema has always been an integral part of every Maharashtrian household. On 25th August 2007, viewers witnessed the launch of the first ever 24-hour Marathi movie channel – Zee Talkies, which brought Marathi cinema closer to our Marathi audiences. Zee Talkies was launched with the sole objective of filling the void for the Marathi audience through a non-stop show of blockbuster movies, evergreen stars and pure entertainment from the world of Marathi Cinema.
Today, as Zee Talkies celebrates its 8th Anniversary, it is important to revisit the success story of the channel, which is nothing short of astounding. In the last four years, Zee Talkies has seen a remarkable growth of 52%. During the last 2 years, the channel has given leading Marathi GECs – Star Pravah& Colors Marathi, a run for their money. Along with this humungous viewership growth, the channel has achieved a number of other milestones:
1. The No.1 Reach channel in Maharashtra among Marathi GECs
2. Enjoys the highest TSV among leading Hindi Movie Channels
3. It has the highest engagement on Facebook vis-a-vis other Marathi GECs and Hindi Movie Channels
Zee Talkies is credited for its many innovations in the Marathi cinema category. It launched the first ever and the only comedy awards of Maharashtra, Zee Talkies Comedy Awards. The channel, for the first time in the history of television, reinvented a movie premiere for television airing. A theatrical blockbuster ‘Duniyadaari’ was reinvented and presented as ‘Naveen Duniyadaari’ on Zee Talkies. In October 2013, Zee Talkies was the first ever movie channel to showcase six movies per day.
Going forward, Zee Talkies will be positioned as a FEC (Film Entertainment Channel).
This implies that along with the best and latest Marathi movies, the audience will also be exposed to the best of film entertainment, whether it’s an event or a show. This strategy has created a lot of affinity amongst the channel audience. Now stepping into its 9th year, Zee Talkies will continue to carry forward the legacy of great productions and personalities of Marathi cinema by providing quality entertainment spanning the entire era of Marathi cinema.
