Alka Saxena conferred the most coveted “Best Programming Head of Year” at the Trade and Technical awards of the Indian Telly Awards 2003. Alka Saxena is the first woman Editor as well as Programming Head of Zee News. The award was presented to Alka Saxena at a glitzy event organized to honour the best of the trade and technical personalities of the Indian Television.
Earlier this year Alka Saxena was presented the most prestigious ‘Hindi Academy Sahitykaar Sanmaan’ as “Journalist of the Year 2003- 2004′. In an anchoring career without floss and frill, Alka Saxena is known for no-nonsense anchoring and breaking many glass ceilings. Alka began her journalist career in the mid 80s with Hindi journal ‘Ravivar’. Alka ‘s writing from ‘Ravivar’ and his sister magazine ‘Sunday’ netted her best’ Best Young Journalist Award, by the Institute of Journalism. She followed it with a stint with Sunday Observer where her reporting on the terrorism-ridden states of Punjab and Jammu Kashmir earned her Kudos. Her interviewing skills during live panel discussions, analyses of elections and critical national and international issues have established her as one of the foremost news TV personality. She has also received a scholarship from European Union and Thompson Foundation to produce a documentary on environment was hot allover Europe and India.
