ZEE Is Green and the Bhamla Foundation unite to spread environmental awareness on World Environment Day, 5th June 2016

This World Environment Day, India's leading media conglomerate, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) through its 'ZEE Is Green' initiative strived towards spreading the message of going green.

This World Environment Day, India’s leading media conglomerate, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) through its ‘ZEE Is Green’ initiative strived towards spreading the message of going green. Partnering with prominent NGO, the Bhamla Foundation, ZEE organised a massive event at Bandra’s Carter Road in Mumbai on June 5th to celebrate this special day.

Notable politicians who were present at the event included Union Power Minister Mr. Piyush Goel, Mumbai BJP president Mr. Ashish Shelar, MCGM Deputy Mayor Ms. Alka Kelkar, former MP Ms. Priya Dutt and Assistant Municipal Commissioner of G North Ward Mr. Sharad Ugade.

Among the celebrities who attended the event to show their support for the green cause were Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Dia Mirza, Zarine Khan, Sooraj Pancholi, Smita Thackeray, Javed Jaffrey, Sonu Sood, Raveena Tandon, Pooja Batra and Gurmeet Chaudhary.

The event commenced with a cyclothon on Carter Road initiated by the Bandra Cycle Club (BCC) along with Burning Wheels. Taking this a step further, under the campaign of ‘One World, One Ride 2017’, Vishal Sharma of Bandra Cycle Club along with four other bikers will be travelling around 35 countries across six continents to spread the message of love and hope.

Another highlight of the event was the workshop by actor, Sanjay Dutt in which he demonstrated the process of making an eco-friendly paper bag which could hold upto 10kg weight, a skill that he had picked up while serving his jail term.

Three representatives from local residents’ association groups, Madhu Poplai, Maria D’souza and Lilian Pais were felicitated for their role in conserving the environment. ChakaChak, a social community started by students in Bandra was also felicitated for their work in beautifying Bandra’s railway station and spreading the message of a clean society.

To further create and build environmental awareness, a number of audience-engaging activities were held including a mime act to spread the message of environmental conservation, a dance performance by Shiamak Davar’s troupe, a sapling distribution drive and a humorous play by ChakaChak on garbage disposal.

Adding sparkle to the event were electrifying performances by singing superstars including Aditya Narayan, Salim-Suleiman, Kunal Ganjawala, Armaan Malik, Shoma, Shadab Faridi and Soham Chakraborty.

By supporting and organising such events and initiatives, ZEE through ‘ZEE Is Green’, is looking to further translate its environmental commitment into action. ZEE aims to go completely green as an organisation by the year 2020.
