Zee Telefilms today announced that it would soon flag off India’s first and only Cine Ratings. The new system of rankings would be scientifically arrived at through a specially developed software, which would measure popularity based on box office success.

The Zee Cine Ratings will be the barometer of success for Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Producer, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Comedian, Best Villain, Best Singer & Best Music Director in the first stage. The ratings’ categories may be enlarged over time.

Broadly, the Zee Cine ratings will be based on empirical data : films released, box office collections (metros/ non-metro/ mofussil) and give due weightage to multi-starrers versus solo performances. “Our effort will be to keep out subjectivity out of the ratings. The more the number of releases and higher the quantum of success, the better the rating,” said Sandeep Goyal, Group CEO, Zee Telefilms.

“This is a property that we are building across the Zee Network: Zee Cinema, Zee TV and Zee News will all be used to promote the Zee Cine Ratings. The ratings will be updated every week and over the year will provide the success graph of Bollywood’s icons,” elaborates Goyal.

Zee Network has spent many months researching and developing the ratings. This year at the Annual Zee Cine Awards, separate awards will be given out based on the Zee Cine Ratings, in addition to the regular Popularity Awards.

Earlier this week, Zee TV also announced its latest initiative, Thursday Premieres, under which, starting October 10, it will air latest movies like The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Humraaz, Dil Hai Tumhara, Om Jai Jagdish, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Main, Deewanapan, and even bring to television screens soon yet to be released movies like Road, Gunaah, Hathiyaar. A world Premiere on television is planned for un-released movie, Little John, for November 14, to coincide with Children’s Day.

“We at Zee TV believe Bollywood continues to hold its spell over Indian audiences and this is a constituency that we wish to build and fortify”, adds Apurva Purohit, President Zee TV.
