Dr.Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group and ZEE delivered the valedictory address at the 15th Exchange4media Conclave which was held at the St. Regis Hotel, Mumbai on October 8th, 2015. The theme for the Conclave was ‘Making Technology Work For Marketing.’
Speaking on ‘Technology fueling entrepreneurship; and its impact on global media landscape’, Dr. Chandra said, “While we think that social media is taking over the news medium, it is actually making the marketing task much easier. Through social media such as Twitter, the news is summarized in 140 characters. If the news spreads quickly, we know that it is the news that people want and we can provide follow-up stories that provide in-depth analysis. We can deliver the news to people in different ways, in different packages and on different platforms.”
Dr. Chandra also mentioned that there are a lot of questions being raised about start-ups in the country. He noted, When I started television in the country, the film industry thought that television would kill them but both grew. In the same way, start-ups will expand the market, so that both start-ups and the traditional channels will exist.
He further added, “Technology will expand the market. It will free up the mind for bigger things and increase the capacity of our human mind, allowing us to do things more creatively. People say that television as it exists right now will die in 10 years. But I say, that this will survive but at the same time, the new way of watching television will grow the engagement of the content leaders, give more opportunities to marketers and expand the market as a whole.”
Other notable speakers at the Conclave included WPP chief Sir Martin Sorrell, Saugata Gupta, Managing Director and CEO of Marico and Mike Amour, President, SMG APAC.
