Huge numbers turned out for London’s largest one-day South Asian festival held on Saturday, 03rd September at the Wembley Park. Zee London Mela, a celebration inspired by the South Asian culture was filled with fun activities for kids and adults, mouth-watering South Asian food, music, Street theatre & circus.
Hosted by ZEE Presenter, fashion model and actor Asad Shan & Bollywood Celebrity Radio Presenter Anushka Arora, Zee London Mela had performances by Punjabi Hit Squad, Delhi’s The SKA Vengers, British Asian singer-songwriter Zack Knight, UK based Qawwali Group The Hussain Brothers, DJ Nish, British Rapper Raxter, International Dhol drumming group Dhol Academy, Pooja Angra & RK Square. Street theatre and circus groups- KHOJ, The Dance We Made & Laughter Yoga.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan enjoyed every bit of the Zee London Mela as he posed with the audience, hosts and performers to click selfies. “Hello Wembley! Huge energy at the London Mela – celebrating the best of our city’s culture & creativity,” he tweeted, along with the hashtag #LondonIsOpen.”
Zee London Mela was attended by several Mayors from Brent, Harrow, Ealing and all surrounding boroughs who along with Sadiq Khan personally met senior executives of ZEE and praised ZEE’s contribution in getting this mela organised.
“Attended by people from diverse communities, the Zee London Mela signifies the very rich international culture of London. This is a huge testament to our philosophy ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – The World is my Family.” said Neeraj Dhingra, CEO Europe, ZEE at a speech sharing the dais with the several Mayors and dignitaries.
Some of the attractions included The Magic Mela Family Art Zone setup especially for kids giving them a chance to discover and explore a whole new world of wonders in arts and crafts. The Taste of Asia food market was the other highlight of the Zee London Mela. Throughout the day there were cooking demonstrations presented by The Urban Raja, who is a renowned food writer, cook, traveller and lifestyle adventurer deep rooted in the Indian Subcontinent.
