Last night was a night of firsts for the mega-mind behind an accolade of Bollywood blockbusters. Vidhu Vinod Chopra sat on the Zee Companion sofa and admitted it was his first time to ever appear on a television show of this nature.

Chopra’s films cover controversial political topics that have challenged norms and promoted chasing excellence while making people fall of their seats with laughter. The mega-hits behind his success include 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Parineeta, 1942 A Love Story and Parinda.

Answering phone-calls and speaking to viewers, Chopra beemed, “This is wonderful. You know I have never done this. This is the first time I am in a studio talking to people. I have never done it. It’s fun”.

He did not stop there with his praise for the show, his first appearance and speaking to the viewers: “That’s the great thing about our culture. That’s what I miss in America. This warmth. There was so much warmth when the callers spoke to me. There is a relationship already. And like I said, I have never done this. This is the first day I am sitting on television and talking and there are people calling me. But it feels so good because, you know, you suddenly feel this is really my extended family. This is what is great about our culture. And we shouldn’t forget just because we get carried away by the West. This is who we are.”

Appearing on television and speaking to callers was not the only first of the night. Chopra revealed he is making his debut in Hollywood with the film ‘Broken Horses’, which is an adaptation of hugely acclaimed Bollywood film Parinda.

Jokingly, he stated Hollywood actors are more punctual and do not turn up with a team of people on set unlike Bollywood actors. Yet he praised the warmth of the South Asian culture of which he claimed he wants to transfer to Hollywood.

There is no doubt that his Hollywood film will be another blockbuster to follow suit of his long list of successes. Zee Companion is proud to have had Chopra on the show and wish him all the best!
