Vastraharan – A play within a play about a group of actors attempting to stage the Vastraharan episode from Mahabharata, took the Marathi theatre by storm. This storm brought by Macchindra Kambali, a veteran Marathi theatre actor, director and producer, known for his humorous style. Vastraharan, brought Malavani dialect to the mainstream of Marathi theatre and made a history. For all those who missed out watching this legendary Marathi play Vastraharan, you can now see it on TV. Zee Marathi is all set to telecast this famous play on April 28 at 1pm and 7 pm.

February 16, 1980 was the day of Total Solar Eclipse and this day turned out to be the most auspicious day for the team of ‘Vastraharan’, as their inaugural stage show was scheduled on this day. With a good opening ‘Vastraharan’ could reach the figure of 175 within a year’s time and the 175th show was held 26th January 1981 in the presence of late P L Deshpande, who was the special guest of honor.

There’s a story about the play which says that the famous actor Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar wanted this play to be performed in London and Lata Mangeshkar was made the president of this grand show. Many popular artistes had agreed to be part of the show. Due to some problems with visa, the show looked impossible, but due to timely intervention of Balasaheb Thackeray, the show was successfully performed in London.

Bharat Jadhav, Makarand Anaspure, Prashant Damle, Sanjay Narvekar, Siddharth Jadhav, Pandharinath Kamble and many other popular artists from films and theatre have worked in this 5000th show of Vastraharan and pay tribute to late Macchhindra Kambali, who made this dream true.

This grand 5000th show, Maha Vastraharan will be televised on Sunday, 28th April 2013, at 1pm and 7pm only on Zee Marathi.
